Visiting a local pick-your-own farm, I found that raspberry season can last much longer than I thought. This was the end of the season in late October. Most of the berries were shriveled and dry, and many of the leaves too, but hiding between the remaining signs of life were just enough ripe berries to fill a pint basket. I looked at the duality of thrive and decay in this painting, with bright green filtered light and brown crunchy leaves all in one plant. It made me think about opposite ideas can often both be true and how you can thrive in uncertainty, like the two perfect raspberries at the center of living and dying.
