New: Two Truths, a raspberry botanical painting in acrylic

A realistic acrylic painting of a late-season raspberry plant with two ripe berries at the center. Some parts of the plant are vibrant green and others dry and brown, with strong highlights and filtered light.

New painting alert! (Alright, this one has been around for several weeks now, but I'm still excited about it. And I want to start making blog posts like this, so I'm starting with this one.)

Two Truths is a 12"x16" acrylic painting on a wood panel, framed in real wood with a walnut stain.

My acrylic painting of a realistic raspberry plant, titled “Two Truths”, hangs on an off-white wall in a dark brown wood frame.    My acrylic painting of a realistic raspberry plant, titled “Two Truths”, hangs on an off-white wall in a brown wood frame.

Visiting a local pick-your-own farm, I found that raspberry season can last much longer than I thought. This was the end of the season in late October. Most of the berries were shriveled and dry, and many of the leaves too, but hiding between the remaining signs of life were just enough ripe berries to fill a pint basket. I looked at the duality of thrive and decay in this painting, with bright green filtered light and brown crunchy leaves all in one plant. It made me think about opposite ideas can often both be true and how you can thrive in uncertainty, like the two perfect raspberries at the center of living and dying.

Two Truths is now available for purchase, along with greeting cards and 8x10 prints.
