As a landscape painter born, raised and living in New Hampshire, I was a little embarrassed when I realized I'd never painted our state tree- the paper birch. Their bright yellow foliage inspires me every fall, and the unique look of their trunks inspire a sizeable percentage of New Hampshirites. This tree is based on one growing at our state's capital building in Concord, but I reimagined the background to feel more rural.
