New Painting: New Hampshire V

My fifth New Hampshire-shaped painting is here! New Hampshire V is a 11"x15" acrylic painting on watercolor paper.

Coming from an ocean-people family, I've been wanting to paint the ocean as part of my New Hampshire series since its inception. Our state boasts thirteen miles of coast, the least of all coastal states, but we make good use of it.

The long horizon of the beach is tough to work into the narrow triangle shape of New Hampshire, though, so I struggled to come up with imagery that would work well. Finally, I thought to check what lighthouses New Hampshire has, and found some great views of Portsmouth Harbor Light, which I collaged together to create my own interpretation that's shown in this painting.

To create the original painting, I traced the cover of a New Hampshire atlas and transferred the shape to watercolor paper. Then, I applied 1/4" masking tape around the entire thing, did my painting in acrylic, and peeled the tape away at the end.

An assortment of print art products featuring my painting, New Hampshire V. Each shows the same art in the shape of New Hampshire's map and depicts a lighthouse by a rocky beach with a lone heron with interesting warm lighting.

New Hampshire V is now available to collect, along with prints and greeting cards.
