Shortly after completing another painting, “Homespun”, I dove right into this one as a sibling piece. I had been enamored with the then-new-to-me process of digitally collaging my reference material; and with the semi-realistic, semi-illustrative style accomplished through watercolor and gouache on wood. I was at the peak of my infatuation with nostalgic rural New England, which reminded me of my grandparents’ farm. This connection is cinched with the red tractor I always picture there, and the beehives, like the ones my grandfather kept.
